Starting Tuesday, I’m spending 6 days in Ghent – staying in a B&B – in order to try and find a studio apartment in which to live for the next six months or so, as I’ll be studying in Ghent for the next two terms. I’ve found a couple of nice prospective places online but they ended up having ridiculous contractual requirements, such as a minimum contract of 3 years.

I almost thought I would have similar bad luck even finding a B&B for these 6 days, because I booked the flight and only afterwards realised that I had neglected to remember that this is THE busiest couple of weeks for tourism in Ghent. All the B&Bs are fully booked, but I eventually found one that still had room for one person.

If I don’t find a place within these 6 days, then I’m pretty screwed, as I certainly won’t have better luck trying to find property in Ghent when I’m back in Ireland and not even in the same country, let alone town.
