This is a new design I’ve cobbled together for my blog. It’s a splicing of two themes I liked with some of my own ideas and images; I liked both of the themes individually but I didn’t feel they exhibited my own personal taste.
The basic layout comes from the bbv1 theme by Aaron Adams. I changed — perhaps I should say “added” — all the colours, and I exchanged the (very 2001) pixel patterns for some nice textures, sampled from the same notebooks and scrap papers you can see in the header image — a photo I took especially for the purpose.
The, in my opinion, rather attractive typography of the main column was appropriated from the Oulipo theme designed by Andrea Mignolo.
The previous design was perhaps a bit more homely in its untidy way, but I wanted something new (it’s been three years after all) that stands more for my current tastes.

Aengus started a new blog, ventolin.org, and his shiny new wordpress theme made me reflect upon how old (3 years!) and inelegant mine was.
So I trawled the web for a simple but stylish design and this was the best I could do…! I’m not sure if I’ll keep it; consider this a trial period.
update: already reverted back to the old design. didn’t feel very me.

I said they were fixed before but actually it was still pretty messed up. Now I believe it works. You just need to be registered before you can post.

I disabled comments a while ago, due to the merciless influx of spam comments (currently over 8000 such comments still in the moderation queue from when comments were allowed).
Now I’ve re-enabled commenting, except that you need to register an account here in order to post.

I’m going to make a documentary type film, but I don’t yet know much more than that. I will go up to people in the street and I will talk to them and ask them questions and film their answers a la Cinema Verite. Then I’ll take a still image of them with my SLR. I’ll make a video and a photo essay from my outing(s).
PS I’m making this website slightly more user friendly by improving the categories and the way my stuff is displayed (eg. Now the videos page has a list of my videos instead of linking directly to youtube).

Those first two are of a moth. A dead moth, indeed.

I hate that blindness that seems to overwhelm you upon completion of some creative project. You know, when you’ve been working on something – like a screenplay, or a picture; anything – and you’re not even sure if it’s any good. Then, maybe, you’ll take a break, come back, and think “Yeah, with hindsight, that’s actually pretty good”.
But then, a few months later, you will look back once more and see that you must have been completey blinded by your pride or tiredness or both.
Well, with this dreary introduction, I announce the new Link Catagory on the sidebar: Various Writings. The reason why my “Various Writings” is a collection containing only one (unfinished draft) entry, is that i looked through everything else I’ve ever done and deemed it to be tripe.
So, soon I’d like to expand on this catagory, with pieces that I won’t want to scrap the month afterwards!

Hello, welcome to my new blog.
I have never particularly liked my name, so it has surprised some that I have chosen it as the domain name for my new website. Truth is, I tried to change my name but no one would play along. I wanted to be, at least, Bill Beaton. It wouldn’t have been a big stretch, since my middle name is William.
However, my family and friends won’t call me Bill. I’ve been told adamantly by people whose judgement I respect, that it is a terrible name. A name unbefitting of my greatness – thanks Kristen! Ok, she didn’t say it in those words, but this was clearly what she meant.
Anyway, the point is that I have decided to give my real name another chance to attach itself. I still liked Bill though. RIP.
